Great stuff. Lage's accompaniment is astounding.

Remarkable that 60+ years after his death, people still are marveling at Django. Imagine if his life had been a bit more comfortable, career not interrupted by war and hands not disfigured by fire.

His disfigurement, arguably, was a major factor in a style that few, if any, can duplicate.

Great stuff, thanks for posting, 0021fan.  I really don't think anyone can argue that the physical mechanics of the left hand has some if not major impact on shaping style.  However I've heard that some people will argue that unless one is playing with only two fingers on the LH, they are not playing the style correctly.  That's pretty funny.  No one will ever be Django except Django.  I can listen to his renditions of any of his songs over and over without getting tired of them (and I have).   I can usually listen to someone else's note for note rendition of Django's solo's 1x if that without getting bored (and it doesn't matter who's playing.)  OTOH, Vignola is getting to be one of my favorite contemporary jazz players to listen to.   He and Lage make this Django classic their own, and I could listen to this over and over (and I have)

I've been fortunate to see the duo, Frank and Vinnie Raniolo, 5 times over the last couple of years at small venues, and am planning to have him perform at my house at some point.  Also saw Frank with Tommy E. in NYC awhile back at the BB King Club ... Frank showed up, impromptu, with a 30s 000-18 shade-top belonging to David Grisman ... Tommy had his Kalamazoo, and they launched into a Django medley that was unforgettable.  Frank is sooo polished and strong on his notes .. a true pleasure to hear.

I'm jealous.  My place is not really set up to host house concerts but perhaps he'd do a barn concert?
